Casino company Wynn Resorts Ltd., which is run by billionaire Steve Wynn, said late Thursday it has boosted the size of its public stock offering to 8 million shares and priced the offering at $43.50.Earlier Thursday, Wynn Resorts said it planned a smaller offering of 5 million newly issued common shares to meet the expected demand for its stock when the company joined the Standard & Poor’s 500 index. S&P was expected to replace chemical maker Ashland Inc. with Wynn Resorts after the close of business on Thursday.

Wynn Resorts plans to use the proceeds for general corporate purposes, including debt repayment.

Deutsche Bank Securities Inc. and Banc of America Securities LLC are acting as joint book running managers and underwriters for the share offering. Wynn Resorts has granted the underwriters an option to buy up to 1.2 million additional shares to cover any over allotments.

According to a Securities and Exchange Commission filing, Wynn Resorts had 104 million shares outstanding as of Oct. 31. The offering is expected to close Tuesday.

Also Thursday, Wynn Resorts reported that it revised its agreement with Deutsche Bank, allowing the company to repurchase up to $650 million of debt.

It’s a sweltering Sunday afternoon in Bangkok. Concentrating hard on their favourite steeds, the crowd on the stand - most of whom are binocular-attached punters - rises to their feet with a deafening roar once ‘Chok Dee’ (Lucky) reaches the ‘bell lap’ (the final lap of a race). The commentator’s voice reaches a near-hysterical pitch as the excitement mounts in the Royal Bangkok Sports Club stadium… Although not quite a scene one would expect to witness in Bangkok, horse-racing events do have their fair share of followers, and offers an exhilarating experience.

Horse-racing first began in Thailand 100 years ago when when King Rama V returned from his state visit to Europe in 1897, and civil servants and students who studied in Europe organised a horse-racing event at the Phra Main Ground (Sanam Luang as it is called nowadays) as an act of allegiance to his return. This gave rise to the popularity of Western style horse-racing in Thailand. MGM Chairman and CEO Lanni to retire Nov. 30

President and COO Jim Murren recommended to succeed Lanni

University says Lanni did not earn MBA (Adds comment from MGM spokesman, Lanni letter to employees)

LOS ANGELES, Nov 13 (Reuters) - Casino operator MGM Mirage (MGM.N: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz) said on Thursday that Chairman and Chief Executive Terry Lanni will retire from those posts as of Nov. 30 and has recommended that Jim Murren be named to replace him.

Murren is currently president and chief operating officer of the company, which operates Las Vegas Strip resorts Bellagio and Mandalay Bay.

The announcement came as the Wall Street Journal said it had raised questions to the company about Lanni’s claim that he earned a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Southern California.

In his biography on the MGM website, Lanni is described as having earned an M.B.A. in Finance from USC in addition to a bachelor of the arts degree in speech and a bachelor of science degree in general management from the same school.

USC spokesman James Grant on Thursday said that the university had informed MGM that Lanni had not, in fact, earned the M.B.A.

Lanni is quoted in the Journal article as saying that the newspaper’s inquiries had nothing to do with his decision to resign. He also told the Journal that he did not finish his MBA because he went to work instead, and that he was awarded an honorary MBA from USC in the 1970s.

USC’s Grant said, however, that the university had not awarded an honorary MBA since 1933.

“The Journal story is a repulsive result of media marketing — it is not journalism,” MGM spokesman Alan Feldman said in an email when asked to comment on the content of the story.

“While the Journal’s inquiry made us aware that his official bio was unclear, it had no bearing whatsoever on his decision to retire,” Feldman said, adding that succession plans had been in the works for almost two years.

Lanni told employees in a letter that he intended to devote himself to a family charitable foundation.

MGM said Lanni will remain as a member of the company’s board, which will take up the issue of formally naming his successor at an upcoming meeting.

Shares of MGM and other casino operators have been punished over the past year as weak consumer sentiment sapped demand for gambling and tight credit markets have jeopardized growth opportunities.
